(We have something you really have to see. And touch)

New PCI Express Gen 1/2/3 Clocking Solutions

Silicon Labs’ new Si5214x PCI Express clock generators and Si5315x PCI Express clock buffers incorporate the industry’s highest level of signal integrity tuning to help address EMI and clock routing issues in a wide range of storage, embedded, enterprise, communication and consumer applications.

- PCI Express Gen 1/2/3 compliant (supports 2, 4, 6 or 9 outputs offering the highest level of performance per watt)
- Meets PCIe jitter requirements with up to 50% margin (better system reliability; enhanced bit-error-rate performance)
- Low power consumption (<6 mA) HCSL output drivers (minimized cooling cost)
- Integrated termination resistors on differential clocks (reduces BOM cost, board space, design complexity and power)
- Built-in I2C control interface for AC parameter and frequency tuning (streamlines EMI compliance and speeds time to market)

Power Architecture® MCUs for Safety Applications

http://www.ebv.com/index.php?id=162&ct_ref=u1007&tx_ebvproductfe_pi1%5Buid%5D=3713

The PXS20 and PXS30 are 32-bit Power Architecture microcontrollers for a range of industrial, medical, and transportation safety critical applications.

All devices in this family are built around a dual core platform with an innovative safety concept that reduces system cost and effort for the customer to achieve IEC61511 or IEC61508 certification of their systems.

PXS20 and PXS30 devices can operate in a lock step mode (LSM) and/ or decoupled parallel mode (DPM), selected at power-on reset time.

The LSM allows reaching the highest safety level, IEC61508 SIL3, with minimum software overhead.

It has been defined to allow reaching IEC61508 SIL3 level with minimum software overhead.

Devices’ sphere of replication (SoR) refers to a set of replicated key modules where at the outputs a formal hardware check is performed to ensure that the same operations or transactions are executed on a clock-per-clock basis.

A presence of redundancy checkers (RC) at the outputs of the SoR for the peripheral bus, the Flash memory subsystem and the SRAM subsystem represents a minimum guarantee that non-common cause faults are detected when the two channels redundantly are merged into a single actuator or recipient.

In decoupled parallel mode, each CPU core and connected channel run independently from the other one and redundancy checkers (RC) are disabled.

The DPM mode increased performance can be estimated as about 1.6× the performance of the LSM mode at the same clock frequency.

Cree claims LED price-performance breakthrough

Dylan McGrath

Claiming a breakthrough in light-emitting diode technology, Cree announced a new product that the company claims delivers twice the lumens per dollar of conventional LEDs and features the highest performance in the industry.

SAN FRANCISCO—Claiming a breakthrough in light-emitting diode (LED) technology, Cree Inc. Tuesday (Feb. 7) announced a new product that the company claims delivers twice the lumens per dollar of conventional LEDs and offers the highest performance in the industry.
Based on a new silicon carbide technology platform, the Cree’s XT-E LED and the recently released XB-D LED addresses the largest obstacle to mass LED lighting adoption, initial cost, according to Cree (Durham, N.C.).

Cree maintains that the XT-E LED more than doubles the lumens per watt (LPW) of its XLamp XP-E LED family—providing up to 148 LPW at 85°C (or up to 162 LPW at 25°C) at 350mA.

The XT-E LED delivers exceptional performance in the 3.45mm x 3.45mm XP footprint and can be used for almost all lighting applications, according to Cree.

Because the XT-E White LED is a successor product to XP-E High Efficiency LED, customers who incorporate it into lighting systems require only 3,000 hours of XT–E LED LM-80 data to achieve Energy Star qualification, as opposed to the normal 6,000 hours, Cree said.

Mike Watson, Cree’s senior director marketing for LED components, said through a statement that Cree’s XB-D LED "changed the game," introducing a better price-performance curve. "Now, with the XT-E LED, Cree continues to break barriers and extend its leadership on this new trajectory, delivering products that accelerate LED adoption," Watson said.

The XT-E White LED delivers up to 148 lumens and 148 LPW in cool white (6000 K) or up to 114 lumens and 114 LPW in warm white (3000 K), both at 350 mA, 85°C, according to Cree.

Samples of the product are available immediately and production volumes are available with standard lead times, Cree said.

More information about the XT-E White LED is available on Cree’s website.
