How Lattice’s MachXO2 Dramatically Cut LED Lighting Control Costs

One of the many compelling uses of the Lattice MachXO2 has been in control-oriented applications as a microcontroller (MCU) peripheral.

As an example, a Lattice industrial lighting customer uses the MachXO2 as the control interface to a large number of LED modules, dramatically reducing overall system cost.

  • The MachXO2 on-chip SPI bus and User Flash memory provides another level of integration that requires no programmable fabric- thus keeping the MachXO2 cost at a minimum.
  • The overall reduction in board space, lower MCU cost, power savings and User Data Flash integration is leveraged over many lighting modules in a typical installation and thus dramatically reduced overall system cost.

The video demonstrates the quick and easy process of installing the development kit and evaluation board, setting up the demos, and getting to working hardware in less than 30 minutes!

The Versa Kit empowers designers to build both PCI Express and Gigabit Ethernet based systems.

The Kit offers free design tools, readymade demos, reference designs, a versatile evaluation board, and a serial programming cable.

The evaluation board features an LFE3-35EA-8FN484C FPGA device, 64 Mbit SPI Flash, 1Gbit DDR3 memory, expansion headers, several LEDs, and user switches.

It contains a PCI Express x1 (Half-length form-factor), two RJ45, and 4 SMA interfaces.

Microsites are becoming ever more popular on the Internet, and visitors to the Lattice web site can expect to see microsites for key Lattice products and applications in the near future.

Our microsites will be 1 to 2 screens long and are intended to showcase a specific Lattice product in a particular application. Compared to conventional web pages, our microsite content is concise, easy to read and targeted. Visitors can quickly scan and understand the key features of Lattice products in a particular application, and learn more.

We are currently creating microsites for selected Lattice products and applications as part of the rollout.
