Feeling a little constrained? Break free with TI’s I²C I/O expanders for added flexibility!

Chain breakingStellaris microcontrollers (MCUs) offer a direct path to the strongest ecosystem of development tools, software, and knowledge for ARM Cortex-M3. Designers who use Stellaris will benefit from easy-to-use tools, small code footprint, and outstanding performance. The high level of integration within Stellaris offers designers greater flexibility in finding the right device that solves their problem. Even with integrated Ethernet, CAN, USB in addition to the other communication interfaces and peripherals, who couldn’t use a little extra room?

With the industrial real-time connectivity of the Stellaris portfolio, one popular protocol to take advantage of is the inter-integrated circuit (I²C) interface. TI has supported the highly efficient I²C BUS® interface with high performance TI MCUs for many years. TI’s I²C I/O expanders, multiplexers, buffers and repeaters can help system designers achieve effective subsystem communications and interfacing using proven I²C devices. With a Stellaris MCU, there are applications that will take you beyond the existing I/O pins. Should that opportunity arise, using the I²C I/O expanders will allow system layout to be greatly simplified. The two-wire bus reduces printed circuit board (PCB) complexity through trace reduction and routing simplification.
